Hewlett Packard (better known as HP) has recently applied for trademark protection on half a dozen brandings, where they all do point towards the very high possibility of new TouchPad tablets from the world’s top computer manufacturer. To put it mildly, it means that the webOS range of TouchPad tablets will most probably see new additions, where the brandings applied for include the TouchPadFlex, TouchPadPro, TouchPadTwin, TouchPadGeo, TouchPad7 and the TouchPadGo.
Needless to say, all of them have one common point – they all carry the TouchPad name, so we could very well see 10″ models arrive in due time. What are some of the other variations that you can think of? Perhaps a hinged keyboard design, or one with flexible or a rollable display?
As with many other rumors that float around the Internet, it only makes perfect sense if one is patient enough to hear an official word from the manufacturer, and that’s exactly what we’ll do as we await for HP’s future for its TouchPad tablets.
Hewlett-Packard has announced to start sales of TouchPad from July, reported Bloomberg. Different models of the tablet with different storage capacity will be sold at a price tag varying from $499.99 (16 GB storage) to $599.99 (32 GB storage).
With the release of touchpad, the move is seen as an attempt by HP to tap into the Apple-dominated tablet market.
The sale process will commence from USA followed by the UK, Ireland, France, etc. The device will be made available for the Canada customers during mid-July.
TouchPad will come equipped with Wi-Fi technology. Users will be able to make use of this feature to get connected to the Internet through wireless hotspots. TouchPad has a 1,024 x 768 capacitive display and is powered by a 1.2-GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The 1.6-pound TouchPad is equipped with a 1.3-megapixel webcam, gyroscope, accelerometer, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and many other features.
The company said the future versions of the device will use AT&T’s wireless network for internet.
The main competitors of the TouchPad will be iPad, Xoom from Motorola, and PlayBook from Research in Motion Ltd. The company said that webOS operating system will make TouchPad different from its competitors.
“The platform’s unmatched features and flexibility will continue to differentiate HP products from the rest of the market for both personal and professional use. This is only the beginning of what HP’s scale can do with webOS,” said Jon Rubinstein, senior vice president at HP.
