Earlier this week, Intel senior vice president Renee James detailed a number of changes that Microsoft is making inside Windows 8. Intel claims that Windows 8 ARM variants will not run legacy applications. Speaking at an Intel investor meeting on Tuesday, James explained that Windows 8 will be available in versions for both x86 and ARM. James revealed there will be a Windows 8 Traditional flavour that will run on Intel’s chips and handle legacy applications. Microsoft is also planning a Windows 7 mode as part of the traditional SKU. “[Windows 8 traditional] means that our customers, or anyone who has an Intel-based or an x86-based product, will be able to run either Windows 7 mode or Windows 8 mode,” she said. “They’ll run all of their old applications, all of their old files – there’ll be no issue.”

We’ve been working on it for a long time. There’s a lot of exciting new features and things about it that I think are going to be great for users, great for the PC and tablet industry.”

Sony spokesman Dan Race said the company found the security hole on a webpage that could potentially allow the hackers who had breached personal data from users in April to access their accounts using the data they had stolen.
"If I had your email and your birth date I could have potentially got access to your account," Race said.
In response, Sony on Wednesday temporarily took down the PlayStation Network password reset page, as well as that of its Qriocity music service. It has since fixed the issue and will bring the pages back up shortly, Race added.

"The Sony network in general still isn't secure and still has security issues that could be exploited by hackers," said Bumgarner, who is chief technology officer for the U.S. Cyber Consequences Unit, a nonprofit group that monitors Web threats.
Sony said no hacking had taken place on this website and that PlayStation Network account holders can still change their passwords on their PlayStation consoles at home.
On Tuesday, Chief Executive Howard Stringer fired back at critics for saying Sony had not acted quickly enough to inform consumers about April's data breach.

How long can we expect the iPad 3 to last on a single charge?
Expectations for the iPad 3 are that it will be even more powerful than the iPad 2, with a stunning new iPhone 4-style Retina display. Will this have an effect on the iPad’s renowned battery life? How long can we expect the iPad 3 to last on a single charge?
Slimming down
Apple’s iPad 2 made a number of improvements to the original iPad format, with a more powerful processor and slimmer form factor. It achieved all this while maintaining the original device’s impressive 10 hour battery life.

As we’ve discussed previously, the common consensus among experts is that the iPad 3 will boast much improved screen technology that will feature a clearer and sharper display. To put it bluntly, it’ll be a 9.7-inch Retina display. This might suggest to you that any advantage gained by a superior battery will be lost pumping out those extra pixels, but that’s not necessarily the case.
Screen tech site DisplayMate carried out a test that compared the iPhone 4′s Retina display with the lower res screens of the Samsung Galaxy S, Motorola Droid, iPhone 3GS and Google Nexus One. It found that the iPhone 4′s screen “is the most power efficient of the displays,” which backs up Apple‘s claims that the technology is extremely easy on the battery.
The same can be said of Apple’s processor tech. There’s a fair chance the iPad 3′s chipset (let’s call it the A6) will be quad-core, boosting the tablet’s capabilities significantly. This needn’t be the huge battery drain that it suggests though. So how long will it last?

Apple has always been about balance, and it appears to be happy with the iPad and iPad 2′s 10 hour battery life – it will be happy if it can maintain that figure in the face of notable improvements elsewhere.

Why tablets impact media use?
Roughly half of the panel said they are the only person in their household to use this item, while 43% shared it with others.
A further 8% had bought a tablet but did not use it themselves, as other people in their home constituted the primary audience.
Having been asked how owning a slate impacted different channels, 35% of participants had reduced activity levels or simply no longer accessed a desktop PC.

Between half and three-quarters of those polled stated purchasing a tablet had not affected the time dedicated to alternative platforms – peaking at 72% for GPS and the 66% lodged by online-enabled TV sets.
A quarter of contributors were actually now more engaged with the latter appliance, handheld games machines and web-to-TV players.
Over a fifth adopted the same view in analysing the extent to which they leveraged smartphones, netbooks and internet-to-television tools.
